Default Help me pick a tire

hey guys i was looking at tires for the car today, and i had almost purchased a set of dunlop dz101 until i read the reviews. horrible wet tractions. so here i am again. i need something with around a 300 treadware, that i can autocross and abuse without to much trouble. starspecs are 200 treadware so they are not going to last long enough for me.
PS: have to be decent for dd duty

I'd say Kumho SPT (or whatever they call it now), but they don't make it in that size apparently.

What you're looking for is an ultra-high performance summer tire....

Tire rack-

Yokohama S.drive - 94/each
BFG g-force sport - 98/each

the BFGs are on closeout....idk what normal price normally is, but that's probably a good deal. Probably a new product line coming out or something. I got a set of bridgestone RE01Rs for like half off on closeout there right before the RE11s came out.

either of those should fit the bill. i assume you dont need/want all seasons?

only thing that sucks is Kumho XS is only a little bit more than those.... but tread life is 180 vs 300/340. just gotta decide/figure out if it's worth the trade off for you.

i autocross the car couple times a month, and its a nice weather daily 60-90miles a day. and with gas going up my dad might start driving it to work which is 100-150 miles a day. so 300 is about as low as i want to go.

i did drive a car with star specs on it and i like the characteristics of that tire but at 200 treadware i would ware them out pretty quick.

well, Tadd, let me let you in on a little secret. There is no standard way of measuring treadwear. One manufacturer's 200 could be anothers 250, or 150 (arbitrary numbers, you can read about treadwear rating differences on google/tire rack).

I found that the star specs have pretty good life. Considering I put them through 15 track days at about 2hours each day, and still got about 12k miles out of them, I think a monthly autocross or two should allow you to get some pretty good life.

Otherwise, its going to be really hard to find a tire that is >200 treadwear and is actually "good" in the autocross environment.

Choose wisely!
