Default sometimes you can't help showing off

We were in a mid-size town a few afternoons ago. We pulled up to a red light and here comes a pickup in the other lane and slides up beside us. This young man is revving the engine and holding on the brake and spinning the tires. The wife looks at me and says “doit” . The light is ready to change and he is really gunning and lighting the tires up .
Light goes green and I punch it . We leave him standing still and for a good ways I am ahead of him . When I grabbed 3rd I think what in the heck am I doing out here over 60 y/o street racing .
I let off the gas and hit the brakes as he flew by he waved with one finger.
A few minutes later a couple of cars that were behind us slowly passed us a young couple and one couple around our age. As they pass us the young couple yelled out you “smoked his a@%”,the older couple was still laughing and she yelled “out that did our heart good”
I think the surprise really got him as he had no idea the Miata was that quick. With him busy smoking his tires he went sideways to start so that gave us a jump.
The wife did ask why I let off? I told her I good just see us setting in a jail and calling one of our kids and asking them to come bail us out or the newspaper having our pic and the heading old couple arrested for speeding and street racing

HAHAHA, that is awesome. It's good to live a little bit. That would be fun to watch.

lol, people always underestimate Miata's, even though they are quickish stock.

They feel fast, and I love that about mine. But, when my Diesel Wagon beats my miata 0 - 60 and 0 - 100 all day long, I find it a stretch to say it's quickish.

I'm pretty sure my wife's Mitsubishi Montero, my stock Toyota pickup, and my mother's Avalon would all outrun my 1.8 Miata before the turbo was added. It wasn't ever "brisk" in a straight line. Hell, they only run ~16.5+ seconds in the quarter when stock. It's good to screw with people who need to be put in their place, though. Pretty funny.

No doubt he would have smoked me within a short distance,if he had not gotten sideways.
Even with that I still jumped him from the start . He was a mad young man

Angry young men are the best to have fun with. Well done!
