Default Old Man Checking In from B.R., LA

Have owned Sports Cars since the 50s. LOVED my Triumph TR-3A and my MGA MkII. Nothing else has captured the fun of those little, agile cars and I have had a bunch.

I'm retired and enjoy driving different cars. My VW Thing and my Mini Cooper S Cab just didn't do it. Sought the best British Roadster, seriously considered a Jag. Saw the new Jag F-Type and offered to pay them list price if they would give me the same warranty my wife has. When they got serious I told them she has a Hyundai with a 10yr, 100k warranty. They just laughed.

I occasionally drive my friend's '65 Shelby Cobra which puts 650 hp to the rear wheels. Seriously considered one, visited Shelby American factory, but just couldn't. Scares the chit out of me. Driving it is a mix of fear and work, and it just isn't comfortable.

Drove a few used Miatas and loved them. The Japs have perfected the British Roadster.

So I found a Miata V8 (5.0 Ford). This car is a pure hoot and I suspect it would be with a stock engine (but there is never enough horsepower).

My daily driver is a '13 M6, a fabulous car, much faster than the Miata but not nearly as much fun.

My previous toys: '05 Mini Cooper S Cab, '09 911S, '06 M6, '02 M3 SMG, '01 M3 6sp, Acura 3.0CL, Dodge Stealth TT AWD, VW Thing, Acura Legend Cpe, Honda Interceptor, Honda Prelude, M-B 450SL, Piper Cherokee 180, Rx 7, 280Z, deTomaso Pantera, 260Z, Datsun 510 2dr, Harley-Davidson, little motorboat, MGA Mk.II, VW bugs, Triumph TR-3A, Renault Dauphine, James, Chrysler HEMI, etc.

As you can see, this old (76) man has been there and done that, but for fun nothing is any better than my Miata.

Currently my little car is having frequent trips to the mechanic shop (the last time I pulled an engine out to rebuild was over 50 years ago, I then became phobic of such work) to get many little details worked out. Hopefully after I get it back Fri with all white gauges, get a new rear axle and put a new different top on it (hate to fight that zipper because top is up ONLY in emergency, and will sell the hard top, it ain't made to drive with that thing on it), we will be ready for pure fun.
