NB owner from around Toronto
Hey there, I'm Mike. I just picked up a silver 2000 Miata stock with a hardtop and 57,000km (35,000 miles) a couple months ago and am trying to learn what I can about it!
It's a bit of a change up for me, my last two cars have been Supras but I decided to get away from the overweight straight-line goodness and get something a bit easier on the wallet and more fun in the turns and this car is doing both quite well currently.
I've been winter driving it (granted this has been the warmest winter I've ever seen in Toronto, we've had hardly any snow and it was 8 degrees yesterday) and on the small amount of snow we did get it's insanely fun. By spring time I'm hoping to get into modding it a bit, just haven't really decided where to start yet. Just figured I would say hello!

welcome to the site, i would recommend starting with handling and braking. a good set of shocks with coil over sleeves, then going to sway bars, and brakes. add some chassis stiffening ( roll bars do a good job of this). then getting into the power mods by starting with an ecu on the stock motor to familiarize yourself with the tuning of the device and finally going turbo or supercharged.
Dont be afraid to ask questions and join in some of the off topic fun we have around here, and check out our monthly feature.

Low Miles, Hard Top, and Silver. Don't drive that beauty in the winter? Come trade with me! Do you like green and double the mileage? It's a great drive between Toronto and Chicago. You get to experience Michigan!

Thanks!
Awesome, thanks a lot, I'll take a look into some of that stuff.
Haha I do like Chicago! I'm just not a fan of owning a car that I can't drive for half of the year, especially when it's as fun on the snow as the Miata. I'm very picky about keeping the underside clean though, especially with the excessive amount of salt they use on the roads around here. There's a little bit of rust underneath and in the engine bay already (I don't know how the previous owner managed that with such low mileage for being 12 years old) but I plan to do away with that as soon as possible.

I hear you, I've been taking all my rusted brackets off and cleaning them this last few weeks. I'm going to paint/powder coat them here soon. I have so many bolts that have broken off over the last two years it's sad. Eventually, all of them will be replaced, I guess.

Yeah I haven't really done much work on mine so I don't know how many of the bolts will end up breaking on me, I'll leave that fun for the spring when it's a bit warmer so I at least have some heat to calm my rage
