Default '99 OEM Fog Lights - no power

Thought I'd post this up to get some input. I bought my car several years ago and the fog lights haven't worked since I purchased it. A while back I got motivated and replaced the bulbs, assuming they were blown, but still didn't work. I later pulled the bumper off and traced wires, looking for any obvious problem, but everything appears to be connected.

At this point I'm a bit torn on what to do. In searching I couldn't really find a major known issue to be resolved. I've thought about trying to rewire them, or just pulling them out (possibly trying to add brake ducts, but that really seems unnecessary for a street car I'd think).

I guess I'm just looking for suggestions. Any specific things to check to get them working? Is there really anything to be gained by the lights working or would you just junk them?

99 fog lights had a habit of melting the connectors (at the fog light side). also check the relay for it. and just so you know, the fog lights only turn on if the headlights or the amber driving light is on.

I personally would chuck them and go for the brake ducts idea (my car gets tracked, so you probably don't want to listen to me on this), hence why I am waiting for the perfect 01+ bumper to pop up on a forum...

Thanks for the help.

Referring to the melting connectors, do you mean in the fog light housing itself? I'll definitely take a look at that when I get a chance. Sure would be nice if it was a simple fix.

apparently its just the housing, but I have no doubt if the housing is melting that the fog lights and the connectors won't be doing so hot either.

do a google search for "miata fog light melt" and read the m.net threads.

I will read around for any other info. In the mean time, have you confirmed the fuse and the relay are still functional?
