04-05 Mazdaspeed Miata Thread

Mazdaspeeds are nice but they require a lot of modifications to get beyond some of the factory bandaids. And they are heavy due to all of the extra bracing and cushy options. If you want a fast car for the track or autocross sometimes it is better to start simple. '94-97 are cheap, light, and strong. The -'99 to '00 have better cylinder heads, and the '01-'05 non-Mazdaspeed cars had the better heads plus VVT. But the NB is heavier than the NA, so it is a trade-off.

I have a lot to learn, but totally am loving all the help.I'm a horse trainer and also spent many yrs as a road manager for some of the best horseman in the country...that is the equivalent of being a pit boss for a top driver. So anyhow,I belong (belonged)to some "horsey" forums that just truly sucked...unfriendly,snotty,etc.I am so impressed with how friendly and helpful and non judgemental this forum is.I'm truly a newbie and I'm sure I'm going to be asking more basic and maybe dumb questions .I thank yoiu alll for welcoming newbies and sharing your knowledge,it is much appreciated and it makes me even more eager to do some autox.
I'm going to just start with my 99 and maybe I'll switch the tranny out in the future,or better yet if I love running, maybe I'll get an older one. Thanks all!!Great forum!

Thanks!
Some of the more "intensive" forums for performance modifications on Miatas are great repositories of information but expect you to read the stickies, use the search button, and comb through pages of threads to glean the information you are searching for. Miataturbo.net is the best for performance modifications but they aren't too patient with questions if they think using the search button could have answered them. I'm not saying it isn't worthwhile reading, but it can be a bit daunting for someone new to digest it all.
This forum was set up with the specific intention of trying to be "nice and helpful". I just regret I can't better help the people who come here with questions on the '06-up "NC" Miatas. I haven't wrenched on one yet and they are completely different.
