diagnostic box

I don't think they (the pics I used in my thread) are wrong. Atleast for the purposes of the thread, I used the GND and TEN in that picture and my idle adjust worked fine.
I just think that both pics. are NA ones. There is actually no pinout for the NB cars because there is no sticker on ours. ------ mazda.

I've not looked at pic, but have a Haynes manual for NA. I used the GND and TEN from that on my 99 ( stocker ) when I cleaned TBody and it worked just fine. Yes Track I 've got a stock one too. Looks like I'm selling my turboed 95R to GF son. Then I'll only have the three.

Ok be patient as I do get easily confused
In post 5 and 7 you indicate that the 99 has a SGND and a GND
In post 11 you say that the 99 does not have one which rules out post 5 and 7
I have never seen a 99 so have no idea if the last pic in my post is one or not just took it at face value
I noticed that smustang1234 says he used the GND/TEN as well
With the 99 not having a diagnostic box what does you post 5 and 7 mean. Just somewhere I am missing something.I have never seen under the hood of anything but a 96 so the pics I showed may all be for any car
Any help on clearing my confusion would be appreciated
Thanks

Since the NB does not have a pinout, I don't really know what each pin does, but we assume its pretty much the same or similar to the NA.
For sure, some things are missing or moved. For example is the pin to turn on the fans...NA pinout didn't work for me on that, but I have been known to do stupid things before...like connecting the wrong pins.
I looked around for pin outs and I found those two (which are actually identical for the purposes of the how-to thread). Since they are identical, its not really worth going back to say they are both actually for an NA. I will check my service manual for a pinout.

Whatever the case, the SGND is grounded on the main ground next to the TB. the GND is grounded to the frame behind the driver side headlight.
Mazda used these connectors in a bunch of models, so they kept it all the same...I'm still looking to confirm.

I swear I used to have it directly out of the 99-00 FSM, but I cant find it. I see what wires goes into the diag. connector in a 00, the same 11 as the 90-93, but there's no pinout on this sheet I'm looking at.

With that said, I may try the fan pinout again and see if it works. I am really surprised no one likes to tinker enough to test this out...then again its always kinda scary sticking a conducting metal between two connections to see what happens... lol

Directly out of the FSM.
FEN = Self-Diagnosis Checker (Monitor Lamp)
MEN = Self-Diagnosis Checker (Code Number)
TEN = Grounding this locks the timing at 10°
+B = Battery 12v
GND = Ground
FAB = Air Bag Control Unit
IG- = Tach signal from coils
TFA = Cooling Fan Relay (Jumping to GND turns on cooling fan)
F/P = Fuel Pump Relay (Jumping to GND turns on the fuel pump)
TAB = Horn Relay (Jumping to GND engages the horn)
SGND = Sensor Ground
FBS & TBS = ABS
FSC= Cruise
FAB = Air Bag Control Unit
KLN = ???? Goes to a data link connector (assuming this checks Engine codes)
there does not appear to be a jumper to activate the fans.
They removed the label because on an ODBII motor, you'd use more sophisticated tools to diagnose issues.

I am not taking away that TEN and GND and SGND or not the same thing however if you look at a 94,a 96 and a 97 there are either more or less pins than 90-93 and 99 and up
The 94 does not have a diagram and one of the 96 that we have does not have a diagram either the one on the 94 in the link I posted does look like it is new or off of a different car like a portege or something because of the gray color. Possible that a 94 was that color
Keep in mind they made a few changes in the 94 and maybe the 95
then 96 first year OBDII and then they made changes again in 97
Not sure if the diagnostic box changed or if they just did away with unneeded pins
I do know the first time I jumpered my TEN and SGND the idle dropped but it was not a good jump as I found out latter when doing it again the car died,the first time the idle only dropped down like150 rpm
This has become a very interesting topic when you look at all the years and the diagnostic box. I wonder if this is one reason why something does not work for this person but did for that ,it is the suttle differences in the cars or a small change that is not really noticed
