Exclamation Air Bag Lights

Have a 95 miata. Had it since 2006. Changed out the steering wheel 6 years ago, and removed the air bag from the steering col. Yesterday ran over some bad road. The air bag light started flashing: 3 flashes, 2 sec pause, 2 flashes, 5 sec pause, and the pattern repeats. Any ideas? This is the only time I've had problems with air bags or dash/warning lights. ideas??? jj
